APA-IL & Women in Planning & Development Chicago Celebrate Women's History Month

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Women in Planning & Development (WP+D) and the APA-IL Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee came together on March 14, 2025 to host an unforgettable morning of dialogue, empowerment, and connection.

Our event, Conversation with Clare Killman, brought people from across planning sectors into a shared space to uplift diverse voices in leadership and reflect on the evolving landscape of equity in planning and public service.

We’re still feeling the energy and thrilled to share that the event was a resounding success! With a room full of engaged attendees, the morning was rich with thoughtful conversation, inspiration, and genuine connection. Councilmember Clare Killman shared her journey as Illinois’ first openly transgender city councilmember, offering deep insight into conflict resolution in local government, the importance of Southern Illinois in gender-affirming care, and the broader movement toward inclusive leadership.

From start to finish, the room was buzzing with motivation and momentum. The dialogue reminded us of the power of visibility, empathy, and action in shaping more equitable communities. The networking over coffee was just as impactful bringing together planners, advocates, students, and public officials to build bridges and spark new collaborations.

To everyone who attended and helped make this event possible—thank you! Together, we’re shaping a future where every voice is heard and every identity celebrated.

In community, WPD & APA-IL DEI Committee
