APA-IL led a citizen planner training session on July 17, 2024 for the communities of Shabbona, Waterman, and Paw Paw. The session was held at the local high school, and elected officials, appointed officials, and staff members were in attendance. Discussion was held on commissioner responsibilities during public hearings, standards for special uses and variations, use of newly adopted comprehensive plans, and potential conflicts of interest for commissioners. The training session was presented by Stephanie Brown, AICP, with Chastain & Associates, and Tom Farace, AICP, with the Village of Carol Stream.
Many thanks to Jen Morrison with the Village of Shabbona for organizing the session.
The 2024 APA-IL State Conference will be held September 25-27, 2024 in Champaign, IL. An all-day plan commissioner training will take place on September 26th at the City of Champaign's City Hall, located in beautiful downtown Champaign. The registration fee is just $75!
The morning agenda consists of the content used during our evening Plan Commissioner Trainings in communities.
A networking lunch is included where attendees have a chance to talk amongst themselves about the trials and tribulations of being a commissioner or board member.
The afternoon agenda is set to apply the knowledge that you've gained during the morning session. Attendees will tour a nearby site and will be able to talk through a site review. Afterwards attendees will participate in a mock hearing.
The APA-IL's fabulous faculty members will be onsite to guide attendees through the day:
