On April 11th, 2018 Women in Planning and Development hosted its spring professional development event, the Work Smart Workshop. Suitably scheduled on Equal Pay Day, the workshop of around 40 participants was facilitated by Angela Hurlock, Executive Director of Claretian Associates.
Angela facilitated very lively discussions and activities centered on empowering women and equipping them with the tools needed to develop stronger negotiation strategies and understand their worth in the male-dominated fields of planning, development, and beyond. The workshop, developed by the American Association of University Women (AAUW), covered topics such as understanding the gender pay gap and its consequences, identifying target salaries and benefits, strategizing, and pitch practice.
When given the chance to share their experiences and concerns, participants were open, honest, and supportive with invaluable feedback and encouragement.
