Dr. Janet Smith, University of Illinois Chicago Professor of Urban Planning and Policy and Co-Director of the Nathalie P. Voorhees for Neighborhood and Community Improvement, has died after a long battle with cancer.
Nik Theodore, Professor and Department Head, Department of Urban Planning and Policy and the Director, Center for Urban Economic Development, emailed colleagues and students on 1/18/22, saying: “Janet’s research and practice epitomize one of the hallmarks of UIC’s mission: ‘To create knowledge that transforms our views of the world and, through sharing and application, transforms the world.’”
Plans for a UIC memorial event will be announced at a later date.
