Studio GWA, The Lakota Group, and Ride Illinois facilitated a bike tour of one of the more complex areas of the Keith Creek Corridor in Rockford, a study sponsored by the regional MPO, Region 1 Planning Council. A group of civil engineers and planners set out to see the reaches of the creek that have historically experienced the most flooding and reviewed the concepts underway for how to address key opportunity sites. The Strong Neighborhood house was a destination along the way, adjacent to the Creek, where local advocate Bob Campbell of ZION Development spoke to the neighborhood efforts for housing and planning for the creek. The group outlined some of the challenges to addressing flooding and redevelopment options while also casting a vision for a long-term future plan. After a warm pedal, the group enjoyed food and drink at Ernie’s Midtown Pub, a fresh addition to the Midtown Neighborhood through which the creek flows.
