This student project represents the first significant historic survey of historic properties conducted in the City of Champaign in over fifty years. The 1973 Heitzman Survey is the only documentation serving as the basis for historic preservation design review and landmark nominations - and it was woefully out of data. Student planners, Tillie Pines and Natalie Crown, completed numerous hours of archival research to locate and digitize the original source survey material - and completed a full update of the survey. A key piece of their project included updating all photography and providing additional details on exterior architectural significance. They also got creative and drew coloring book pages of Champaign historic landmarks to highlight important architectural landmarks and hopefully inspire a renewed appreciation for preservation in Champaign.
