Let’s Bake a Site Plan Workshop Recap

Design by editor69

What do you get when you bring together planners, real-world development sites, local planning expertise, and a few pencils? “Let’s Bake a Site Plan!”

On July 29, APA-IL Chicago Metro Section partnered with Ginkgo Planning & Design, Inc. for a hands-on site planning workshop at the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) in Chicago’s historic Old Post Office.

Led by Ferhat Zerin, FAICP, and Pericles Georgopoulos, the workshop introduced participants to the fundamentals of site planning and put those lessons into practice through drawing exercises featuring real opportunity sites from Chicago, Morton Grove, Deerfield, and Roselle.

Adding valuable local perspective, planners from each community shared the background, opportunities, and challenges associated with their featured sites. We were joined by Zoe Heidorn, Daniel Nakahara, Heidi Sperry, Emily Thrun, and Caron C. Bricks, along with special guest Mayor David Pileski of Roselle.

A huge thank you to Ginkgo Planning & Design for generously donating their professional time and workshop supplies, to CMAP for hosting us, and to everyone who participated. The afternoon was a great reminder that sometimes the best way to learn site planning is to grab a pencil and start drawing!"
