“Remembering Riley O’Neil” Campaign

DEI Committee - 2026 Riley Fundraiser

Remembering Riley O’Neil What if we could help carry Riley O’Neil’s work forward?!

The APA-IL DEI Committee and DePaul University have partnered to honor Riley’s life and legacy through the “Remembering Riley O’Neil” campaign, launched at the APA-IL Conference and running through November 10. Riley (LAS MA ’17) dedicated his career to bike safety, Complete Streets, and building healthier, more sustainable communities in Chicago.

He was tragically killed while riding his bike home on June 5, 2026—the very kind of tragedy he worked to prevent. In his memory, we’re raising funds with Joe Schwieterman, Professor at DePaul University’s Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development. Your donation will support the next generation of planners through scholarships, fellowships, research, student opportunities, and initiatives focused on safer, more sustainable cities.

And there’s an opportunity to DOUBLE your impact! The APA-IL DEI Committee will match every donation, dollar-for-dollar, up to $1,500. Every gift helps turn Riley’s passion into continued action.
