In Memoriam: Craig Hullinger, AICP
Craig Harlan Hullinger, a prominent past APA-IL member, passed away on June 27, 2025 at the age of 77 in Bloomington, Illinois. He dedicated his life to civic improvement and was an avid city planner.
"Worked with Craig on all sorts of projects with American Planning Association and municipalities and organizations in the south suburbs of Chicago. Always thinking out of the box and pursuing new ideas and solutions often in very good humor. Before anyone was really using Facebook we started a City Planning Facebook page together for the exchange of innovated ideas and best practices. He will be missed. May he rest in peace." -- Grace Bazylewski
"Craig was a never-ending stream of planning ideas, many of which he published in his “Dreams & Schemes for the Chicago Region” — a small book of big ideas and “no small plans” that contained all sorts of inspired ideas for improving the Chicago region he knew so well. The number of blogs he created could seem overwhelming :) but now I’m especially grateful for having a written log of a whole range of things, from the ideas in the above book (including what did and didn’t happen) to his documentation of the inspiring biography of his friend in the planning world, Efraim Gil." -- Ty Warner, AICP
Our condolences to Craig's family.
