Phillip "Phil" Green, AICP
At Large Officer
Most people who meet me say "I've seen you on LinkedIn" and to that I say "I'm sorry."
I am running for the position of At-Large Officer because I am dedicated to continuing to define and improve the value that the Chapter provides for our members. As Chair of the Membership Committee for the past several years, I have advanced our partnerships with other professional organizations to provide additional networking opportunities. I was also part of the team responsible for delivering virtual programming during COVID, which led to the chapter earning the 2021 Karen B. Smith Award for service to members. I am a regular contributor to the State Conference, participating in panels, sessions, as well as social events such as trivia and murder mysteries.
As at-large officer, I hope to continue to bring energy and ideas to the Board in service of our members. The position itself is an open-ended supportive position. If elected, I would seek to work closely with the President, listen to feedback from members, and provide the momentum we need to get things done, just as I have as Membership Chair. I would also seek to define the position more clearly for those who would fill the role after my term ends.
My vision for APA-IL is to be a Chapter that is there for members throughout their careers. APA-IL events and members were instrumental in helping to kickstart my career when I first moved to the US, and I volunteer in gratitude for that. I look forward to growing the support we offer to mid-career professionals, and seek ways we can keep retired professionals as engaged as they want to be with opportunities to mentor and support the next generation. I also look forward to working with a Board committed to expanding opportunities to those traditionally marginalized within Planning, and making all decisions with a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
